The university is a public, co-educational university. The university headquartered in Nashville was set up in 1912. Its main campus is spread across 500 acres. Its Avon Williams campus is located in the city downtown. The university earned a place for 10 years in a row in the US News and World Report edition of Guide to America’s best colleges. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission of Colleges recognized the Tennessee State University to award associate, bachelor’s, master’s doctoral and professional degrees. Under the jurisdiction of the university there are College of Agriculture and Consumer Sciences, College of Business, College of Education, College of Engineering, School of Graduate Studies and Research, College of Liberal Arts, College of Health Sciences, College of Public Service, University Honors College. With the help of these the university is giving degrees to students in 77 subjects. Besides there are many online degree and research programmes. The university with the help of its school of graduate studies and research is offering 24 masters’ and 7 doctoral degree programmes.
