Florida State University was founded in 1851 as a public, co-educational research university. The university, headquartered in Tallahassee, is spread on a 1391-acre campus. It is a member of the State university system of Florida. It is one of the most ancient universities in the state of Florida. The university is ranked 96 among the best universities in the southern region of the USA. The Carnegie Foundation recognized the university as the institution where highest number of research activities takes place. Several research activities are going on in the university. The teaching staff will take part in research projects along with the students. There are over 50 research centers in the university, which incurs an expenditure of over 200 million dollars on research annually. There are eight libraries in the Florida State University namely Robert Manning Strozier Library, Dirac Science Library, Claude Pepper Library, College of Music Allen Music Library, School of Library & Information Studies Goldstein Library, College of Law Research Center, College of Medicine Maguire Medical Library, and FAMU/FSU Engineering Library.
