Emory University is one of the top destinations for research. It is the second biggest university in the state of Georgia. The university offers various courses with high standards. Its main campus is spread over 600-acre site in Atlanta. It was established in 1836 with the title Emory College. The college was closed down for some time because of the civil war. After reopening the college progressed with the inclusions of new courses and new schools. It received the status of a university in 1915 and functioning with the title Emory University. The university was given 21st rank by the US News and World Report national universities rankings for 2016. It is a private and research-oriented university. The Carnegie Foundation described the university with highest research activity. According to 2015 fall season statistics, the university has 14,274 students and 1117 teaching staff. The student to teacher ratio of the university is 8:1. 58 per cent of the students constitute females while 42 per cent are males. It is recognized by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission of Colleges to award associate, bachelors, masters, doctoral and professional degrees. Under the jurisdiction of the university, there are Emory College of Arts and Sciences, Oxford College, Graduate Business School, Laney Graduate School, School of Law, School of Medicine, Neil Hodgson woodruff school of nursing and Rollins school of public health. Through these schools the university is offering several degrees to students.
