The institution became the East Alabama Male College in 1856 after 20 years of it coming into being. The school became the first land-grant college as per the Merrill Act of 1872. Consequently, its name has been changed to Agriculture and Mechanical College of Alabama. In 1899, its name has been changed to Alabama Polytechnic Institute. In 1960, it was finally changed to the present name of Auburn University.The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges recognized the university to award bachelor’s, master’s, doctorate and professional degrees. There are students from over 100 countries who have been pursuing education in the university.The university with the help of schools and colleges under its purview has been offering 110 masters’ and doctoral programmes. The admission rules are unique to each of the university colleges. Therefore, students seeking admission in a programme should verify the relevant catalogues, admission dates and rules. Those applying for master’s degree should hold bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or college and those applying for doctoral programme should hold a master’s degree from a recognized university or college.
