The university was founded in 1951 as a public, co-educational research university. It is head quartered in Huntsville and has a sprawling 432-acre campus. The university, which is a member of the University of Alabama system, has 16 research centers. The Carnegie Foundation described the university as the one of the universities devoted to research and that has the highest quantum of research activities. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges recognized the University of Alabama, Huntsville to award bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral and professional degrees to students. The university is offering more than 83 degrees in over 100 subjects. Under the purview of the university there are College of Business Administration, College of Education, College of Engineering, College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Nursing, College of Science and College of Honour and College of Graduate Studies.
